The National Daughters of the American Revolution, Old Spanish Trail Chapter invite you to participate in creating a JAC club at your school and/or participate in their contests.
The Junior American Citizens Committee, officially established in 1906, is the DAR’s second oldest youth-oriented committee. The original objectives of this committee were: “To instill good citizenship in the youth of all races, creeds, and economic backgrounds, by teaching loyalty to the United States of America, giving practical ideas for service to home, community, school, and country; thus encouraging a deeper sense of social responsibility and increasing interest in the study of Civics, Social Studies and the history of the U.S.A.” Reaching out to students in grades one through twelve across America, the committee fosters the idea that the rights and responsibilities of citizenship can and should be taught from an early age.
JAC clubs can meet as often as daily (to salute the flag and say the JAC Creed, for example), as rarely as once a year (to perform a community service, and simply have some sort of patriotic activity), or any frequency of meetings in between. JAC handbooks, membership cards, and other JAC materials are available through the Old Spanish Trail Chapter of the NSDAR.
There are many different types of contests offered to students in grades K-12. You do not have to be a JAC member to enter. Please check out our National Website for more information.
